Weekly Preview- Oct. 29

Weekly Preview

This will be a busy week for us.  We have lots of fun and exciting things to celebrate.  This week we will focus on the formal teaching of the letter h and focus on counting syllables in words.  We will focus on the poem Squirrel, Squirrel that we learned last week to help develop our concept of word.  We will continue to do word study, reading groups and literacy stations.

We will learn about ordinal numbers in math and work on first through fifth.  We will do a variety of activities to help the students learn this SOL.  My favorite activity will be learning the poem 5 little pumpkins sitting on the gate.  FUN!

We took a look at all the seasons last week and talked about how they effect us.  This week we will look at the season of Fall specifically.  We will read lots of books about fall and talk about how fall effects the animals and farmers.

On Wednesday, we will celebrate our 50th day of school!  WOW, 50 days already!  Time has been flying and we have been learning a TON!  We will also celebrate our Harvest time of year on that day.

Looking forward to another great week!
Sincerely,

This week we will continue to do Reading groups.  We had a great start last week and I want to keep us moving forward.  We will learn the poem Grey Squirrel and use that to help us with Concept of Word for the next 2 weeks.  We will continue to practice rhyming and story retelling using the book There was an old lady who swallowed a bat.  FUN!

In math, we will be reviewing numbers from 1-10.  We are nearing the end of this 9 weeks and I want to make sure EVERY child has these numbers before moving on in the next 9 weeks.  We will play a variety of games to help us review the numbers.  MORE FUN!

This week in Science we will discuss seasonal changes.  We will begin by identifying the seasons and how they effect people, animals and plants.  We will then look at the life cycles again.  We will look at the life cycle of a pumpkin.

Looks like a busy and fun week!  Enjoy!
