This week...

This week…

This week we will finish with our formal teaching of the letters with the letter O.  We will also finish this week with our Concept of Word poems with Twinkle, Twinkle.  We will continue to focus on retelling a story, reading sight words and writing 2-3 sentences at a time.   Please look in your child’s homework folder later this week for a list of words your child still needs to learn by the end of the year.

This week in math, we will review addition and subtraction.  We have a good grasp on this concept and hope to expand our learning with a few math games.

We will begin to learn about plants and their life cycles.  We will also talk about what a plant needs in order to survive.  We will get the chance to go outside, weed the Kindergarten flower bed, and plant pumpkin seeds.  This will be a good learning experience for us all.

Things to remember for this week:

Please continue to send in a snack daily.  Thank you to everyone who sent in snack last week.

Thursday is our Pep Rally to kick off our Boosterthon!  This will be a great fundraising event ending with a fun run on May 10th.

Next week we begin end of the year PALS testing.  This will continue for 2 weeks.  ( I cannot believe we are coming to an END! )

Just letting everyone know way in advance….on the last day of school Kindergarten will have a singing celebration followed by cookies and a slide show in our classroom.  Everyone is invited to attend and then take your child home with you.  More details to follow.

Have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Beltz

This week...

Hi Families,

Sorry this is coming to you late.  I did not have a chance to get onto the computer this weekend, BUSY! BUSY! BUSY!

This week we are learning the letter Jj.  We will also use the poem Twinkle, Twinkle for Concept of word.  This will be our last COW poem before we start PALS testing.  They have been doing an awesome job on concept of word and I have lots of little readers.  We will work on writing all about ways to help the Earth this week.

In math, we will learn more about fractions.  We will learn 1/4 and parts of a set.  We will do this in several different ways.  Hands-on, through the use of the Smartboard and even making our own pizza. ( not real of course, although pizza does sound good right now! )

We will learn about recycling, reusing and reducing in honor of Earth day.  We will learn ways we can help the earth at home and at school.  Sorry in advance for the TV and lights constantly getting turned off, HAHA!  We will sort recycling and also go on a litter pick-up around the school.

Reminders:
PE this week will be on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Please continue to send in snack daily.

Thank you to everyone who sent in extra snacks.  I  think/hope that we have enough to take us through the end of the year.

Have a great week!

Looking Ahead...

This week…

This week we will continue with our Fireman poem to reinforce concept of word.  We will learn the letter Y.  We will continue to focus on read groups, reading retelling and literacy stations.  We will write about what we want to be when we grow up.

We will focus on ordinal numbers from first through tenth.  We will do this through pictures, activities and even use some tasty treats to learn about ordinals.

We will focus on community helpers and their jobs this week.  We will focus on specific helpers per the SOLS.

We will have a guidance lesson this week with Mrs. Kopley and our UMW practicum student will also do a reading lesson with the class this week.

Reminders for this week:

Please return report cards if you haven’t done this yet.

Please continue to send in a snack each day for your child.

Please continue to review new sight words, read and spell them.

Now that the weather is warm outside, we will continue to go outside at recess but it does get chilly in our classroom.  Please continue to send in a sweatshirt or little coat with your child.

Looking forward to another great week!

Looking Ahead...

I know that Spring break isn't over yet but I thought I might be able to get ahead, LOL!  So with that in mind here are a few things we will be studying when we return to school next week!

In Language Arts, we will continue to work on our PALS poem.  PALS testing will be the first and second full weeks in May.   We will also learn a new poem to help continue our focus on concept of word.  It will be about community helpers, we will talk about this soon.  We will learn the letter U and it's sound.  We will also continue our quest to become master retellers of a story.  Reading groups will also continue.  We will work on writing about what we did over spring break.

We will finish learning about Spring. ( I know if seems like forever, however we haven't really experienced spring just quite yet! )  We will learn about baby animals and how they are similiar to their parents.

We will work on counting orally to 100, counting and writing our numbers to 30.  We will do this using lots of different methods and hopefully have fun while learning.

Weekly reminders:

Thursday is our field trip to Riverside Dinner Theater.  We will leave from the school around 9:45 and return to the school by 2pm.  Lunch will be provided however, your child will still need a snack upon returning to school.  PLEASE SEND A SNACK TO SCHOOL WITH YOUR CHILD ON THIS DAY.  Please also  have your child dress-up for this event.  It is a dinner theater and we want them to learn about dressing appropriately.

Report cards will be sent home on Thursday also.  If you have any questions or concerns about your child's progress, please contact me.

I am looking forward to getting back together with my kiddos....time flies and it certainly will as this year is coming to a close.

Enjoy the rest of your week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Beltz
